Adventure Fundraising at its Best
What is more fulfilling than a paddle on a beautiful river?  Paddling on a beautiful river and bringing joy into the lives of people living with disabilities at the same time.

We call it Adventure Fundraising.

It is 246 miles long and flows from the Okeefenokee Swamp in Georgia to the Gulf of Mexico near Suwannee, FL.  Stephen Foster wrote a song about it.  Native Americans used it as a trade route.  Steamboats travelled its dark waters.  It is the site of the prehistoric Suwanee Straits which once separated the Florida peninsula from the rest of North America.  Its dark water is lined with clear freshwater springs, just waiting for a short plunge on a hot day.

The purpose of the PeaceMaker Paddle is to raise money for and awareness of the StirringWaters aquatic project being built in Central Florida -- the most accessible place in the world.

Enjoy a one or two day moderate paddle with your evenings free to enjoy and explore the trails along the high banks.  Since this is a fundraising adventure, paddlers should set goals to raise at least $5000 each.  Lodging will be at the Advent Christian Village in the Village Lodge. Housing and meal cost is only $150 a person (double occupancy) or $250 for a couple.  Plan to relax in the evening as you sit on your porch high above the River and watch it move toward the Gulf.  Even if you do not want to paddle, you can still sign up as a PeaceMaker and help raise money for StirringWaters.
  • Thursday, 9/19 -- Arrive for dinner by 5 p.m.
  • Friday, 9/20 -- Plan to paddle as a team from Suwannee River State Park to the Village Lodge
  • Saturday, 9/21 -- Plan to continue downstream for 1/2 day, ending with lunch.  You can check out and head home or plan to relax on your own at the Village.

Form a fundraising team or represent your church, club, school, business, or community as you paddle each stroke.

StirringWaters is being developed in cooperation with Lake Aurora Christian Camp and Retreat Center to be a full aquatic experience intentionally inclusive of people with developmental and physical disabilities.  Think underwater adventure while still in a wheelchair, or floating the lazy river on special rafts or even while in a wheelchair.  Maybe even snorkeling a coral reef with our SeaAbility program.  Call it therapeutic, call it adventure, call it excercise, or call it FUN.  A place where no one is left on the deck but all can get into the fun.
